The first Yakut text was published in 1705. Translated religious literature and folklore texts in phonetic transcription were printed beginning from 1819. A common writing system was created in 1922 (S.A. Novgorodov's alphabet). In 1929 the reformed Novgorodov script was replaced by a new Latin alphabet, and a Russian-based script has been used since in 1939. Education and science
